Cockatiels

Cockatiels are the most docile parrot to live with. They rarely have a 'bad feather' day and their general disposition is very sweet! They are one of our favorites! A common thing that I hear from people when they contact us is 'I want a bird, but not a cockatiel because everyone has a cockatiel.'

Well, there is a reason 'everyone' has a cockatiel, they are GREAT birds!

They are common because they are easy to live with, typically love everyone in the family, and are good with children. They come in a wide variety of color, called 'mutations'. We raise several different mutations. One mutations is not any better than the other. It is all in personal preference.

They are very affectionate birds who love to be with you!

Their name comes from a Dutch word "kakatielje" which means little cockatoo.

DNA research shows that cockatiels really do belong to one of the cockatoo families.

Cockatiels are also very sociable birds. They need to be talked to, played with and touched. They will solicit attention from people by singing or doing tricks. As sociable flocking birds, they like to eat while the family or anyone else is eating. Being affectionate birds, they like to be pet, bending their heads down to be stroked.

Cockatiels can be housed with other Cockatiels without losing their pet quality. They also tend to do well with English Budgies or Parakeets. We do not however suggest they be housed with lovebirds.
